From COP16: "Peace with nature, biodiversity and climate change"
Spanish-language Plenaries Climate Justice Faith
Join us for a conversation from COP16, the UN Biodiversity conference, taking place in one of the most biodiverse regions of the planet affected by climate change, Cali, Colombia.
Based on a WWF report, Latin America has seen 94% loss of biodiversity in the last 50 years, and as in a recently launched report, faith communities in Latin America are working to restore degraded ecosystems, protect biodiversity and engage their local communities with opportunities to learn about and care for nature.
The discussion will include the reasons why climate change and biodiversity loss need to be tackled together, and what “Peace with Nature,” the theme of this COP16, means for Colombians after 52 years of civil war. In the next couple of years, Latin America will play a leading role on climate justice (COP30) and biodiversity negotiations, and it is important that the church be ready to join and lift up these conversations.
The experts will include: the Rev. Neddy Astudillo, coordinator of the Climate Justice and Faith Certification program (Spanish); Nathaly Quito, coordinator of the Climate Justice program at the Lutheran Church in Colombia; and Eliana Álvarez Grueso, expert on biodiversity and climate change.
This call will be in Spanish with English interpretation. Please, join us!
